A super cool and unique onboarding idea came to me when I was struggling with what to buy my mom for her birthday.

It was around three years ago. I was agonizing over the right gift when, out of nowhere, I remembered seeing the doob 3D shop.

According to Wired:

“Each Doob-licator is outfitted with 54 Canon EOS Rebel T5i DSLRs, arranged in nine columns of six cameras each.”

The information they capture is then used to print a 3D figurine.

“Why don’t I get my mom a cute ‘mini me’?” I thought. So that’s what I did.

My mom LOVED it. She wouldn’t stop going on about how she takes “little Johnny” with her everywhere.

Then a bolder idea came to mind. “Why not do this with all our new employees?”

So whenever we have someone new, we take them to doob 3D.

They assume a pose of their choice, and hold still while all those high-res cameras click. Afterward, I take the new hire and the rest of the team to my favorite hot pot place in San Francisco.

Two weeks later, their 3D figurine comes in.

As CEO, it’s always important for me to find ways of honoring the people I hire and work with, and let them know how valuable they are to the company. In this case, it’s not only that they go through a unique onboarding experience; they also get to see a physical copy of themselves join the rest of the team.

In other words, they’re shown that they belong now, physically.

Small gestures like these help them feel like Qwil is more than a fintech startup that helps freelancers and small businesses survive.

My favorite part?
